Transcendental Songs

The Fraser Valley Wind Ensemble (FVWE) proudly announces their 2020 spring concert, Transcendental Songsat the beautiful Matsqui Centennial Auditorium in Abbotsford, BC.  This concert will be our second annual collaboration with the very talented Royal City Concert Band (RCCB) based out of New Westminster.  Under the batons of artistic directors Rob Goddard (FVWE) and Kris Covlin (RCCB) the ensembles will explore repertoire with themes of transcendental reflection. Transcendental Songs will be presented on February 29th, 2020 at 2:00pm at Abbotsford’s Matsqui Centennial Auditorium.

The ensembles have undertaken some exciting and challenging works for wind ensemble to begin 2020. These works emit a theme and emotion that transcend everyday life, evoking feelings of joy, sadness, and reflection. Frank Ticheli’s “Joy Revisited,” was inspired by the birth of Ticheli’s first child. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Peter Meechan’s “Soul Divine, is written in memory of an aspiring Canadian music student and friend. David Maslanka’s masterpiece, “Give Us This Day, inspired by Lord’s Prayer, allows us to reflect on out awareness, presence, and our position and opportunity in the world. This concert will also feature local saxophone artist and FVWE member, Luke Vincent, who will perform Fantasia for Alto Saxophone, a magnificent and complex concerto written by Claude T. Smith.

The Transcendental Songs concert will take place Saturday, February 29th at 2:00pm. Tickets are available at the door or in advance: General $15, Student/Senior $10.
